The Backroom in Culver City.
New gallery/project in Culver City: The Backroom. It could sound kinky but it might just really be located in the back. I welcome this new space with excitement as I do believe in the aesthetic effervescence of this area. Next step will be to bring/build housing on top of galleries and stores…
__The Backroom is a new independent project space in Culver City, operating from September through December 2005. Over four months artists will be invited to present source materials that inform and support their practice, creating an expanding compilation of objects, videos, magazines, photographs, ephemera, data and written anecdotes..
Participating artists include: Edgar Arceneaux; Archigram (Dennis Crompton); Walead Beshty; Anne Collier; Olivier Debroise; Jeremy Deller; Trisha Donnelly; Kota Ezawa; Vince Fecteau; Akasegawa Genpei (compiled by Reiko Tomii); Sam Green; Henrik Plenge Jakobsen; William Jones; Stephen Kaltenbach; Tom Lawson; Jesse Lerner; Marko Lulic; Ari Marcopoulos; Michelle O’Marah; Pedro Reyes; Tercerunquinto; Jeffrey Vallance; Mark Verabioff; Miguel Ventura; Bruce Yonemoto.

Kent Williams at Merry Karnowsky Gallery.
The weekend is ahead! Once again, a multitude of great openings to attend and probably not enough time, but you shouldn’t miss Kent Williams @Merry Karnowsky Gallery. See you around.
Sean Healy and Ryan Pierce.
Two artists I’ve discovered: Sean Healy (left) and Ryan Pierce (right). You can see Sean Healy’s work at Elizabeth Leach Gallery and Ryan Pierce’s at Marghitta Feldman Gallery, both galleries are located in Portland. Photographs taken by Eva Lake.
