The Flog.

Archiving The Flog, in Rainbows, looking for an intern.

While enveloped with In Rainbows, I have been uploading old posts into the January 2008 archives.

Here are the direct links:
- Margi Scharff at Overtones (the show closes March 8th, this weekend)
- Corina Gamma at d.e.n. (amazing video installation)
- Scoli Acosta at LAXART
- USC MFA Open Studios
- 24-Hour Roman Reconstruction Project (the infamous cardboard marathon at Machine Project)

Which brings me to make the following official announcement.

The Flog is looking for an intern, here, at The Flog Headquarters.

You must know how to work on a Mac (know how to use Photoshop, Wordpress, Dreamweaver, and be efficient at browsing the web), must be curious to know about the Arts, have some views on what is going on culturally and politically in the world. Must be organized, attentive, enthusiast and indeed, serious.

Please send along a short cover letter and a resume. I am looking for someone living around Culver City to avoid excessive amounts of driving. Hey come ride your bike!
Please, no phone calls. Drop me an email at fette at the-flog dot com.

Thank you! Looking forward to hearing from you.

California Landscapes for Emigre.

Emigre has relaunched/redesigned their website which is a good excuse to go back and have another look at their books. The Photographic trilogy from Rudy VanderLans, co-founder of Emigre, brings together different visions of Southern California’s landscapes and environments through musical tributes, from Van Dyke Parks, to Don Van Vliet and Gram Parsons. Each book comes with a CD containing various musical compositions, in relation with each dedicated trip. Each: $24.95 / Trilogy $64.85.

Make Poverty History at G8 Summit.

Until July 9th, 8 world leaders are gathering in Scotland at the G8 summit. It’s never too late to show your support.
__”We’re asking people who have websites of any form, shape or kind, to advertise the Make Poverty History campaign, so that collectively we can raise awareness and as a result put pressure on our leaders to do the right thing.”

Edith Abeyta and Tiki Jay One.

From the Hammer, Matthew and I headed over Downtown for the LA Art Fest (first 2 photos below), found the ultimate parking spot in the shade and then walked around the artists’ booths. I bought one little green plate (second 2 photos below) and one little red plate from Edith Abeyta who is a Los Angeles multimedia artist. She is the co-founder with artist Carol Es of the three gallery/studio space in San Pedro. Few years ago, she had an exhibition @Walled City Gallery called “Lim(b)it” where she was calling attention to the incarcerated women who have killed their abusers in self-defense. Right now, and until june 26th, the gallery is showing the new works from the LA graffiti artist Tiki Jay One. You must have seen one of his dinosaur or the delicate nurse faces on some electric boxes around the city (right image - from wooster collective website).

The Holy Gallery of the Absurd.

The Holy Gallery of The Absurd. The colorful and absurd work of Fourteen who lives in the belly of the beast: Los Angeles. (images from her website)__”The alien shown above (left image) is an evil Dingbaticus from Planet Vapid. They’re sent to Earth to trick unsuspecting humans into thinking the Dingbaticus is talented and entertaining, but their real mission is to control the U.S. news media by diverting attention from facts and issues impacting our country and planet and focusing it back onto  superficial drivel. Be warned, too much exposure to this nefarious beast will eventually cause the brain to atrophy. If you find yourself doing things like watching Britney Spear’s “Chaotic” reality show, or if you find Tom Cruise to be the least bit compelling, seek help immediately…you may have been infected by the woeful Dingbaticus.”

Calendar Update.

Back for more! I’ve posted more events in the calendar section. There is a big week end a head! I’ve also cleaned the flog with more archives. I didn’t make a full May page-archive because it’s way too big of a file. Crazy.

Welcome to The Flog.

Welcome to my Flog. I am dedicating this web space to my Los Angeles journey and to all the mysterious and exciting events I am going to or wish I could go to. I hope you will enjoy my picks.
